QuestionsIs WVSC a licensed
camp?
WVSC is licensed by the state of NH to run a Youth
Recreation Camp. During operation we are inspected each year by a
state inspector and again in 2008 we received an overall rating of
Excellent due to our “Super programs, facility and staff”,
“excellent accommodations” and “excellent medical coverage”.

Where will campers
stay?Campers will be housed at the
Snowy Owl Inn, a classic New England
inn, which is centrally located in the Valley. All rooms are loft
rooms and have a bathroom and A/C. There will be 3 other campers and
at least one counselor in the room as well.
What is food
like?If you are expecting institutional quality meals at
WVSC you will be disappointed!! Consistent with our philosophy of
developing healthy lifestyles for kids, we are extremely fortunate
to have a chef such as Susan Brunvard preparing healthy and
nutritious meals here at the Sports for a Lifetime Academy. A
student of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, Susan
was head chef at the famous Rangeley Inn in Rangeley, Maine for
nearly 20 years. Each day starts with a choice of a hot breakfast
entree or cereal. Lunch and dinner are served buffet style outdoors
with two entrees served. Fruits and salads are always
available
What immunizations are required?WVSC
follows the State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, guidelines for schools.

Do campers need to bring any
equipment?WVSC recommends that if you have a helmet,
mountain bike or tennis racquet to bring it to camp. Also, if you
have any equipment that you feel more comfortable using such as golf
clubs, ice skates etc., bring those as well. WVSC will provide
tennis racquets and golf clubs. Mountain bike rentals are available
for an additional fee.
Do the campers need to have
played golf/tennis/biking/swimming before?No, WVSC’s
philosophy is to provide the quality of instruction typically found
in a intensive sports camp but not the quantity. All of our programs
are designed to accommodate all levels. If any camper would like to
spend additional time practicing any sports or just playing with a
friend, those opportunities are available during the free choice
activity sessions. If a camper would rather participate in an
additional activities such as ice skating, canoeing/kayaking or
basketball, those opportunities would also be available during those
times.
What is the camper/counselor
ratio?The camper and counselor ratio is 3 to
1.
How are the campers divided for day time
activities?The campers are separated into co-ed groups
of 8 to 10 primarily by age and to a lesser degree by ability and
maturity.
Who are your
counselors?Minimum requirement for resident counselors
is at least one year of college. Approximately 50% of our counselors
are adults with extensive experience teaching
children.
Where do parents stay during parents
weekend?Parents can stay at one of several properties
located right in Waterville Valley. See our
web site for more information. It is
recommended you make your reservations thru WVSC to take advantage
of our special rates.
Should my child bring a cell
phone/ipod?NO, you can call home twice a week; a phone
can be made available for that purpose. If you are traveling and are
taking a cell phone for security during the trip we ask that you
give it to us for safekeeping during your time at
WVSC
