What We Look for in an Applicant
There are no specific traits that guarantee your success as a camp staff member. Staff do, however, serve as role models for our campers so they must always consider how their actions influence the campers.

We hire women and men who enjoy being with children, who are patient, sensitive and understanding, who are interested in leadership training and group dynamics, who enjoy the outdoors and who will lead the campers by their example.

Following is a short story that demonstrates what we consider to be one important quality of a successful camp counselor:
"A group of campers and their counselor are walking around camp after a heavy rain. They come across a large mud puddle. The campers want to play in the puddle. A poor counselor tells them they can't because they will get dirty. An average counselor, after making sure the puddle is safe, says 'Okay!' and then watches as the campers play. A good counselor, after checking the puddle, says 'Follow me!' and then jumps in the mud."
Another way to explain one of the qualities we look for is that we want counselors who act "child-like" without being childish. Does this sound like you? Then click here to begin the application process!

Most counselors live in a room with 3 campers. All counselors teach or assist in a program area. We also need staff who are "program heads" and who can supervise entire program areas.
The following areas require program heads: Arts and Crafts, and Outdoor Adventure, and Waterfront. For the requirements for program area heads go to Requirements of a Program Area Head.
